Acupuncture is probably the first therapy that patients think of when they consider seeking Traditional Chinese Medical healing. As one of the commonest and certainly one of the oldest types of Chinese medical therapies, acupuncture has gained international recognition in recent decades as western scientific research increasingly corroborates what TCM practitioners have known for millennia – acupuncture is a technique that has provable therapeutic benefits.

Acupuncture is actually a range of procedures all of which involve stimulating anatomical points or meridians on the body using different techniques. The most common and well-known technique involves delicately piercing the skin with fine, metal needles by hand. However, acupuncture can also include electro-acupuncture in which the needles are stimulated by electrical current, ear acupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion, in which the mugwort herb is burned on the end of the acupuncture needles.

Acupuncture needles are so extremely thin and tiny that patients experience practically no discomfort when the needles are inserted. Although research is still ongoing to try to understand how acupuncture works, it appears on a physiological level that the insertion of the needles causes body processes and functions to physically change so that energy flows smoothly and balance is restored.

The Best of Chinese Medicine offers targeted acupuncture treatments to help correct: joint and muscle pain, fertility and sterility problems, manage weight issues and for facial rejuvenation.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is based on the idea that "like cures like." That is, if a substance causes a symptom in a healthy person, giving the person a very small amount of the same substance may cure the illness. In theory, a homeopathic dose enhances the body's normal healing and self-regulatory processes.

These sessions will be all about you, however I would like to introduce myself first so you get a sense of what will be offered. I truly believe that the therapeutic effect and healing you receive during treatment are a reflection of the therapist’s own journey as well as yours. So let’s get on board and meet Nicolas!

After diving deep into the world of martial arts since I was a child, I was always drawn to its spiritual roots. A backpacker at heart, I travelled through several countries in order to connect with people and immerse myself in different cultures. This journey took me to India where I completed a 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training course recognized by the Yoga Alliance to teach yoga in its holistic essence.

However, many years before leaving by myself to Terra Incognita, I was but a shy, overweight adolescent with a distorted view of my own body. It was through a deep understanding of my pains and needs that I decided to dedicate my youth to sports to overcome my weight problems.

This sparked within me a desire to devote my life to help lessen people’s suffering and led me to pursue a Masters degree in kinesiology, during which I deepened my understanding of the mechanics of the human body. Still in search for more, I went on to complete a Massage Therapy diploma in Thai Yoga Massage that taught me how to treat the body in a more fluid way.

Within my practice scope, I aim to merge science and spirituality, offering clients both a yogic and biomechanical approach.

I am currently undertaking a 5 year osteopathy program at the Canadian College of Osteopathy.

These sessions will be all about you, however I would like to introduce myself first so you get a... Read More

Meet Chaitali Shah Homeopathic Practitioner

“Having my roots in India, I grew up learning about natural home remedies from my mother. I guess this subconsciously instilled the concepts of natural healing into me. From a very young age, I was fascinated by human anatomy and biology. Growing up I realized my calling was in medicine and when it was time for me to choose a career, I was naturally inclined to holistic sciences.” That’s what drew Chaitali to Homeopathy, a holistic, natural medicine system that helps heal the person and not just treat conditions.

“My focus is chronic illnesses of all age groups and all conditions. Seeing patients experience healing that makes a difference in their life is the most fulfilling aspect of my job.”

Education and Experience

Chaitali earned a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine from C.M.P. Homeopathic Medical College in Mumbai, India. She graduated in 2011 and is a practitioner of classical Homeopathy. Chaitali is licensed and registered with the College of Homeopaths of Ontario.

From Dramatic Above-Ice Aerials to Chiropractic

In one sense, Dr. Barbara Smith literally “fell” into chiropractic as her chosen career and life’s work. After a three year professional skating career, tragically, Dr. Barb suffered a major fall during one of her shows. While performing a dramatic maneuver forty feet in the air, her safety harness broke and she plummeted to the unforgiving ice below. Thus, her skating career was prematurely terminated.

Fortunately, Barbara’s recuperation and reflection period included on-going chiropractic adjustments which helped her to make a complete physical and emotional recovery.

And so, moved by her experiences and sheer determination, the twenty-three-year-old Barbara packed her bags and left for Dalhousie University with the long-term plan of becoming a chiropractor in order to help others just as she had been helped.

Dr. Barbara Smith uses traditional chiropractic techniques along with current evolving low force techniques, in particular Koren Specific Technique to locate the stress that you have been holding in the body for a very long time causing imbalances that have been missed in the past by other doctors. This includes physical, mental, emotional and chemical stress. Since then she has helped many patients with symptom reduction and recovery (see her professional portfolio).

“Most of all I love to see the joy that people experience when they are pain free, able to return to the activities they love and striving towards optimal health!” – Dr. Barb
